  • You are proud of your companion - you have fun learning and succeeding together

WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING METHODOLOGY?

At Practical Pup, we believe in using scientifically up-to-date, dog-friendly training methods. Our goal is to teach your dog what he SHOULD do, instead of what he shouldn't do. We promise never to frighten or hurt your dog - such methods often do not work, and can cause unwanted side effects such as fear and aggression. We rely on positive reinforcement techniques and use treats liberally!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IN-HOME COACHING AND DAY TRAINING?

In-Home Coaching means that we will work side by side through your dog's training plan. This will give you the chance to see the training take shape and learn a bit of the science and mechanics behind it all. This also means that you will be practicing with your dog between sessions. The typical format for in-home coaching is a one-hour session every one to two weeks.

In Day Training, I will work with your dog when you are unable to. I will get the behavior up and running, and then transfer the finished package to you, along with instructions for maintenance. In other words, I'll do the heavy lifting! This is a great option for busy professionals. The day training format consists of between two and four one-hour sessions per week.

WHAT IF I'M OUTSIDE YOUR SERVICE AREA?

Depending on your location, we may be able to accommodate you with the addition of a mileage fee. We can also refer you to a certified trainer that uses science based, dog friendly techniques. If there are no local references available, we can put you in touch with qualified trainers offering distance consulting.

WHAT ARE YOUR TRAINING PACKAGE POLICIES?

The initial consult fee is due at the time of the consult. In home coaching package fees are due in full at the first session. Day training package fees are due in full prior to the first session. We accept payment via cash, credit card, check and Venmo. All behavior consultations and private sessions registered and paid for are considered sales final and expire 6 months after purchase. Expiration dates are set to encourage consistent progress.

Should you wish to cancel/reschedule any services prior to the session date, we require 48 hours notice for a full credit to be used at a later date and time. Otherwise, the session is considered completed and services rendered. Inclement weather or other extenuating circumstances may be cause for cancellations. In these events, you will be credited or refunded at our discretion.
